The Kent County Sheriff's Department East Precinct is investigating a home burglary in Ada and an attempted home invasion in Cascade.

An Ada Township resident reported returning home with his family and discovered his garage service door had been kicked in and many valued jewels and electronics had been stolen.  The home is located at 4900 block of Spring Ridge Dr in Ada.  The break-in took place between January 14 and 17 according to deputies.

An attempted break-in occurred in the 6200 Blk of Cascade Road SE in Cascade Township. This occurred between January 13 and 14.  Someone attempted to force open the access door to the garage at this address, but it appears the suspect did not make entry into the home.

Amway one step closer to expanding facility in Ada

Ada Twp.(WZZM)- Amway is investing $20 million in an expansion of its manufacturing facility along Fulton Street in Ada Township.

Earlier this month, the Township approved the first step in getting tax abatements for the project.
The company wants to build a 55-foot high addition for protein drink powder equipment.

Amway will also create up to 74 jobs at the plant by moving its operations from California to Ada Township.

If the township approves the tax abatements, Amway could save $190,000 in property taxes the first year.

Snow removal budget for Kent County on track

GRAND RAPIDS (WZZM) - With each snowfall that affects West Michigan, the Kent County Road Commission maintains two-thousand miles of pavement, combined with all state highways running through the county.

Annually, The Kent County Road Commission begins with a budget of around 17-million-dollars. That pays for salaries, materials, and the cost of routine maintenance through the year. But winter storm intensity can occasionally cause the surplus to be spent very quickly.

"Each storm costs about $200-250 thousand dollars for significant snowfall, so if this comes like they're saying tonight, we'll spend up to a quarter million dollars. It doesn't take many of these storms to spend all the money," said Jerry Byrne, Director of Maitenance at the Kent County Road Commission.
