Ken Kolker exhibit opens at FAC today

Ken Kolker exhibit opens at FAC today

From: http://www.fhfineartscenter.com

Reception: Thursday, February 10, 2011, 6 p.m. - 7:30 p.m. in the lobby. The Nate Roberts Quartet performing. Everyone is welcome!

A portion of a barn, a row of windows, apples on the ground…Photographer Ken Kolker’s simple photographic images intrigue the imagination into considering what lies beyond the immediate view. “I’m always wondering what’s around the bend,” he says. “My photographs tend to raise the question of what comes next.”

Kolker has a curiosity that comes naturally––in the news business since 1979, he has spent his entire career inquiring and discovering. Whether reporting or taking photographs, he always keeps his eyes open and pays particular attention to specifics. “You need to look at the broad view, but the details tell the story,” he says.

West Michigan doctor worried about family in Egypt

West Michigan doctor worried about family in Egypt

ADA, Mich. (WZZM)-- A West Michigan doctor is keeping a close eye on the protests and looting in Egypt.

For nearly three decades, Dr. Aly Mageed called Egypt home. He moved to the U.S. back in 1985 to attend medical school, leaving his friends and family behind.

"I am the only one here from my family, and it's very difficult when you have loved ones on the front line, if you will," says Mageed.

For days now, thousands of demonstrators have taken to Egypt's streets, calling for an end to President Mubarak's 30 year reign.

"There have been human-rights violations, there's been a lack of freedom [and a] lack of basic necessities even for people to live a normal life," explains Mageed. "The people of Egypt have spoken and they want a change, and sometimes that change doesn't come without a price."

Mageed says the hope for a regime change is being led by young, educated adults.

House Moved - Wind Generator in Place

House Moved - Wind Generator in Place

From: Cascade Charter Township Manager's Blog

The caretaker house in the Burton Park was finally moved to its new location at the top of Windcrest last week. The house (now at 7000 Windcrest) made the trip over a two day period. It is now sitting on the new foundation. The old basement has been filled in, and will need to be regraded when the frost is out of the ground this spring (careful, the ground is pretty rough in this area now!). The "meadow" area really looks big without the house in the center of it!

The log awaited wind and solar generator at the Library was also put up last week. The generator is operating and is connected to a display in the Library indicating the amount of electricity being produced. The project (initiated by Township Clerk Ron Goodyke) will provide a wonderful resource for students studying the effects of wind and solar energy on our daily liv
