Forest Hills Public School staff "walk" to benefit pediatric research

(Kent County)-Several staff members from the Forest Hills Public School District are walking to help Pediatric Research. The fitness challenge will benefit the Pediatric Oncology Research Team (P.O.R.T ) at the Helen DeVos Children’s Hospital.

The staff members are beating the winter blahs with the friendly “walking” competition. Forest Hills Northern Head Athletic Trainer, Patty Sellner is coordinating the “Healthy Husky” walking teams.

From now until February 20th, 33 teams of five, from Northern High, Northern Middle School, Northern Trails, Central Middle, and the Administration Office plan to hit the 10,000 steps a day mark.

This project is a great way to foster team spirit among staff, it motivates them to get up and moving in the New Year.  Last year they raised $1000 for the YMCA Healthy U program. This year the Center for Physical Rehabilitation has given us a lead donation of $1,000 and challenged the Healthy Huskies to raise another $1,000.

So far, the district wide total was 7,579,070 steps or the equivalent of 3789 miles. Our overall total is 12,240,239 steps approximately 6,120 miles. Weekly prizes are awarded to the big steppers.  The Center for Physical Rehabilitation will also award prizes at the end of the competition.
