My Town Cascade: Academy of Music in Grand Rapids celebrates new space

CASCADE, Mich.—One of the largest private music schools in the community is celebrating its grand re-opening.

Friday afternoon, the Grand Rapids Chamber of Commerce helped cut the ribbon on the new home of the Academy of Music in Grand Rapids, located at 6159 28th St SE, Ste 24 in the Cascade Business Center. The new site caters to the growing school, with more than double the number of teaching studios. In several of the 14 classrooms, teachers can now wirelessly connect their mobile devices and mirror them on screen, allowing for a more modern, engaging lesson. The facility also features LED monitors and Apple TV in classrooms. The waiting area features Wi-Fi and USB ports, activities for children and a coffee bar for adults.   Director Barbara Hendricks says there’s also enough space for the academy’s new baby grand Kawai piano.

Academy of Music in Grand Rapids began in 2003 as the Audiation Station, which was a home piano studio and preschool music program.  The academy now includes nearly 200 students taking guitar, piano, voice, drums, strings, ukulele, mandolin, and Music Together classes.

Academy of Music Grand Rapids’ grand opening weekend celebration runs Friday, Feb. 28 from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Saturday, March 1, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.  Visitors can tour the school, meet teachers and staff, take part in giveaways and enjoy free food. Schneider Family Chiropractic will also be on hand Saturday with massages and PEMF therapy.

For registration information, call 965-1655 or visit www.academyofmusicGR.com.
