My Town: Georgio's Gourmet Pizza to open new restaurant

CASCADE TOWNSHIP, Mich.—A downtown Grand Rapids pizza restaurant is expanding to Cascade Township.

Georgio’s Gourmet Pizza will celebrate the grand opening of its newest restaurant at 5570 28th Street SE in mid-May.  As part of the celebration, Georgio’s will offer a free slice of pizza to patrons who make a donation to Kid’s Food Basket, in the fight against childhood hunger

Construction on Georgio’s second Grand Rapids area location should be finished by the end of April.  The new location will offer an expanded menu; in addition to more than 50 varieties of pizza, patrons can dine on pastas, sandwiches, soups, salads and appetizers. Beer, wine and cocktails will also be available.  The family-friendly restaurant will also have a kids menu and theme nights, and diners can order delivery.

EAST GRAND RAPIDS, Mich.--  A Miami lawyer turned  East Grand Rapids entrepreneur is launching her luxury lounge wear line in West Michigan.

Jamie Loeks Duffield came up with the idea for Duffield Lane when she and her mother couldn’t find appropriate pajamas to wear during their traditional Christmas Eve gathering with family.   

My mother and I were looking for quality, appropriate and stylish lounge wear that we would want to wear past December 25th. There just wasn’t anything out there that was fashionable and comfortable,”says Duffield.

The entrepreneurial spirit runs deep in Duffield’s family.  Her Jim and Barrie Loeks, founded Star Theater and her uncle, John Loeks, founded Celebration Cinema.

Duffield is currently teaming up with Michigan- based Fashion Pronto to develop a new line that will be available this summer.

(Kent County Administration) – Businesses and residents in Kent County are in good hands fiscally. Kent County remains financially strong, according to rating agencies Standard & Poor’s (S&P) and Moody’s Investors Service. Both agencies affirmed the long-term Triple-A credit ratings– the highest possible – for the County. This represents the 16th consecutive year that Kent County has held the long-term Triple-A ratings from both agencies. My Town Ada: Construction company targeted in real estate rental scam

ADA, Mich.—One of West Michigan’s 101 Best and Brightest Companies to Work For has become a target in a scam.

Early this year, Dan Vos Construction Company of Ada notified the Better Business Bureau that its name was being used in a real estate rental scam.  The company had received complaints from people in Arizona, New Jersey and Texas about a posting on Craigslist and Hotpads, claiming a Richard Carlson recently accepted a job with Dan Vos Construction Companies in Michigan and was offering his home in Arizona/New Jersey/Texas for rent.  The rent posted varied between $600 and $740 per month and included all utilities.

Dan Vos Construction Company informed the BBB about the false posting.  The company does not have an employee named Richard Carlson. The company name is also Dan Vos Construction Company, not companies.

As of April 1, both listings appeared to have been removed.

West Michigan Roofing & Construction’s newest branch is located at 3736 West River Drive NE in Comstock Park.  The new location is managed by Edward Macklin III and Joseph Waldner.

My Town: Prepare for a 'Museums Free 4 All'

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich.—One month from today, it will be a “Museums Free 4 All” in Grand Rapids.

On May 4, Amway is once again covering the cost of admission for families to four major Grand Rapids museums, including the Grand Rapids Art Museum, the Grand Rapids Children’s Museum, the Grand Rapids Public Museum and the Gerald R. Ford Presidential Museum.  Participants can also jump on a free shuttle to travel to and from each museum.  Amway will also be hosting fun, family-friendly activities outside the GRAM.  People who get their “passport” stamped at all four museums will also have a chance to win prizes.

My Town:Students advance to Science Olympiad State Tournament

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich.—More than a dozen teams of West Michigan youth will head to Lansing next month for the Science Olympiad State Tournament.

The teams competed for a spot in the competition during the Region 12 Michigan Science Olympiad event held Saturday.  It was the 30th anniversary for the competition, held at Grand Valley State University.

Based on the results, the following teams will compete at the state Capitol:

2.     Grandville Middle School

3.     Jenison Jr. High

4.     Chandler Woods Charter
