The East Precinct of the Kent County Sheriff’s Department weekly crime report:

3100 block of Wildridge in Grand Rapids Twp: Larceny from Auto on September 28, 2011.  An unlocked vehicle was entered and golf clubs were stolen. The suspect appeared to have spent some time in there since the vehicle smelled like cigarette smoke the next morning.

3500 block of Plainfield – Grand Rapids Twp:  A red and black 2009 Honda moped was stolen on September 29.

East Precinct Deputies were dispatched to an MDOP (malicious destruction of property) call in the 7600 block of Candlewood on September 29.  A solicitor was believed to have caused some property and vehicle damage by throwing rocks after the resident turned the solicitor away. The solicitor was located by deputies, interviewed and lodged for MDOP charges over $1000.

Thieves target cars in Grand Rapids Township

GRAND RAPIDS TOWNSHIP, MI - The East Precinct of the Kent County Sheriff's Department reports that multiple automobiles were broken into on Tuesday, September 27 in Grand Rapids Township.  All of the break-ins occured overnight between Monday and Tuesday.  The suspect(s) entered the vehicles either through garage service doors or unlocked cars in driveways.

Kent County Sheriff's Department Crime Report for the East Precindt

On September 26, 2011, two separate Home Invasions were reported in the area of 3 Mile and Leffingwell Ave.  Both residents had attached garages that were entered and vehicles rummaged through. The victim in the 3000 block of Winesap had a laptop computer taken from the enclosed garage. The victim in the 2500 block of Appleleaf Ct had only cigarettes taken from one of the vehicles. Entry was made through a service door.

Ada Township has revoked solicitation permits for door-to-door magazine sales in the township.  Also, there have been multiple complaints about Kirby vacuum sales within the township.

Kent County Sheriff reports suspicious situation at Collins Elementary

On Thursday, September 8, 2011, at 3:40 PM, an unidentified male approached a teacher at Collins Elementary School, 4368 Heather Lane S.E., Grand Rapids Township, and said he was there to pick up a first grade student and used the student’s name. When questioned by the teacher, he said his wife had called for him to pick up the student. The school followed their procedures for checking a student out of school and the subject left the building without the student.

The parents were notified and said no one was contacted the pick up their child from school. The school sent out a letter to all the families at Collins Elementary.

The unidentified subject is described as a white male, approximately 40 years old, 6’0, with short dark hair and medium build. He was dressed in a light colored long sleeve shirt and tan or dark dress pants.

Ada Twp:

8/23/11: Daytime Home Invasion in the 8700 Blk of Vergennes. Occurred between 8:30am-5:45pm. Entry was believe to have been made through unsecured garage. Taken were tools, jewelry, electronics and other possessions.

8/30/11: Report of overnight Larceny from Auto in the 1000 blk Ada Place Dr: Unlocked vehicle was entered and money and property was taken from the center console.

8/31/11: Report of Larceny from Auto at Ada Twp. Park(1180 Buttrick). Occurred 9am-8pm. Ring stolen out of center console. Car was not locked.

8/26/11: Report of Larceny in 8800 Blk of McCabe Ct. A 6ft tall farm gate was stolen from a pasture. All cows from the pasture were accounted for.

8/28/11: MDOP(Malicious Destruction of Property) reported in the 8000 Blk of Crancreek. Slider door window was shattered.

Thieves steal cars from Cascade dealership

Car thieves targeted the Delta Audi dealership on 28th Street SE in Cascade over the weekend.  The East Precinct reports that four vehicles were stolen sometime between 9:00pm on August 20 (Saturday) and 8:20am on August 22 (Monday).

The four cars are described as:

#1: Brown 2008 Audi 4-door, no plate.

#2: Tan 2011 Audi 4 door with plate CFU0809.

#3: White 2011 Audi 4 door plate CFT9788.

#4: Black 2011 Audi Wagon plate CFY7060.

Also stolen was a plate off employee's personal vehicle.
