FHPS - Going green scores financial savings, local and national recognition

In July 2006, Forest Hills Public Schools entered into an energy savings program in cooperation with Energy Education Incorporated. The emphasis of the program was to reduce consumption of natural gas, electricity, and water. The district provided building guidelines and procedures to accomplish this task. Since the program began four years ago, the district has avoided $2.6 million in utility costs.
The 2007 bond issue included addressing long-term infrastructure issues, and the district incorporated energy efficiency as part of the renovation process. We have updated gym lights in all buildings, replaced parking lot lights with LED lights, and added occupancy sensors to many areas including bathrooms, storage spaces, offices, and classrooms.
