Crews demolish amphitheater to make way for new public space
LOWELL, Mich.— The old Lowell amphitheater is no more.
Crews began demolishing the former events site on July 15, ripping up the old concrete to create space for an extension of the Riverwalk. City officials say the new plans include a dock, a canoe/kayak launch near the current boat launch and a separate fishing deck and fishing pier along the walkway. The Riverwalk will slope all the way up to King and Lafayette, and will be lined with benches and picnic tables.
The $450,000 project is being paid for with a $300,000 grant by the Department of Natural Resources. The city also raised $150,000 for the extension, which is being built by Katerberg Verhage, located in My Town Ada/Cascade.
The Riverwalk extension is expected to open to the public in October.
