Down to four: Where the search for Kent ISD’s next superintendent stands

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich.—Leaders of the Kent Intermediate School District are narrowing their search for the ISD’s next superintendent.

Board members will begin interviewing the four finalists this week.  The candidates include Ron Caniff, superintendent of Grandville Public Schools; Dr. Curtis Finch, superintendent of the Mecosta-Osceola ISD; Tom Martin, superintendent of West Ottawa Public Schools; and Dr. Sara Magana Schubel, superintendent of East Grand Rapids Public Schools.

Finch will be first up for questioning.  His interview will take place at 6 p.m. on Monday.  Shubel and Caniff will be interviewed Wednesday, starting at 6 p.m.; Martin will answer the Board’s questions on Thursday.  The second round of interviews will take place Tuesday, March 31.

Today, Monday, March 2, 2015 is the first day of the Aquinas College Student Art Show.

The show runs through March 27th and is open Monday – Thursday from 10am – 7pm. Friday hours are 10am – 4:30pm and Saturday and Sunday the hours are 2pm – 6pm.

Location is at the Aquinas College Art & Music Center at 1607 Robinson Rd. SE in Grand Rapids, MI.  49506

The Forest Hills Adult Community Band announces the 7th annual Bands on the Grand festival on March 7, 2015. The series of concerts will be held at Forest Hills Eastern High School Auditorium, 2200 Pettis Avenue, Ada, MI 49301.

• 11:30 a.m. - Rockford Community Band

• 12:30 p.m. - Grand Ledge Community Band

• 1:30 p.m. -  Lansing Concert Band

• 2:30 p.m. -  Motor City Brass Band

• 3:30 p.m. -  West Michigan Concert Winds

• 4:30 p.m. -  Forest Hills Adult Community Band

ABOUT THE FESTIVAL

The Bands on the Grand is an all-day adult community band festival. Each band will perform a free concert for the public which will be critiqued by professional music adjudicators. Each participating band will then have a private group session with a professional Clinician.

The Ada Township Parks & Recreation invites children ages 7 years to 11 years to experience a fun morning of snowshoe tromping. Snowshoes are provided for this event at 1180 Buttrick Ave. in Ada. Please meet inside before begining your outdoor adventure.

My Town: Time to trash the tree!  Free Christmas tree recycling locations

Christmas is over, which means it’s time to trash the tree.

Many municipalities are offering free tree recycling services to residents with a natural tree.  Some communities are planning to put the trees through a chipper and use the remnants to cover park trails and other green spaces.  Here is the schedule for live tree drop-offs:

Ada Township (Through Jan. 12)

  • Ada Township Park, from 7:30 a.m. to 8 p.m.

 

Alpine Township (Through Jan. 31)

  • Behind Township Hall, 5255 Alpine Ave. NW

 

Cannon Township (Through Jan. 10)

  • West side of the township building; RHS Honor Society will help unload trees Jan. 10 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. (donations encouraged)

 

Courtland Township (Through Jan. 31)

  • Fire Station #1 on 14 Mile Road
