Community prays for healing after temple shooting

UPDATE at 10:30 P.M. (WZZM)--  A Sikh temple in Ada Township became center stage for healing Tuesday night, after a shooting rampage in Wisconsin.

Police say on Sunday, Wade Page, 40, opened fire at a Sikh temple in Oak Creek near Milwaukee. He killed six people before officers shot and killed him.

Tuesday, dozens of people visited the Sikh Society of West Michigan to calmly pray for the six victims while collecting donations for their families. Local politicians, religious leaders and a diverse group of community members were among them.

"I can tell you people all over the country are saddened, shocked and repulsed," said Grand Rapids Mayor George Heartwell.

Sikh leaders are encouraging everyone to get to know more about their religion, in hopes it will prevent such violence from ever happening again.

"We have no hard feelings about anybody. Sikhs are neutral people; we love everybody," said Dr. Tejinder Mander.
