Transportation Website Expands to Four County Area in West Michigan | News
West Michigan residents in a four county area can now visit one website to find a variety of public and private transportation options if they need a ride for work, school, medical or social service visits, or intercity travel.
The Ottawa County Transit Coalition recently expanded its website, www.lakeshoreridelink.org, to include the counties of Allegan, Ottawa, Kent and Muskegon. The website, which was first launched in 2010 with transportation providers for Ottawa County only, now includes more than 50 transportation providers with detailed information on their services and costs to help residents find a ride.
The website allows visitors to sort transportation options by county, passenger type (senior, person with disability, student/youth or general public), and type of travel (medical, work, social services, intercity). A Quick Reference Guide with all provider listings by county also is available to download as a pdf file. Live website links to the providers’ information also are included in the directory.
“Our expanded website now includes a comprehensive listing of more than 50 public, private and social service transportation providers for the entire West Michigan area,” explains Tiffany Bowman of Pioneer Resources, the agency which served as the project manager for the development of the LakeshoreRideLink website. “To the best of our knowledge, this website is the only one of its kind that provides a regional clearinghouse for transportation information. Our hopes are that the website will eventually expand statewide to include all transportation providers.”
The website was developed by member agencies of the Ottawa County Transit Coalition with Federal Transportation Administration grants, and was launched in 2010.
The mission of the transit coalition is “to increase vital access to transportation resources through education, advocacy and collaboration of resources to ensure the quality of life for the members of the community.”
Coalition members include Pioneer Resources, Inc. of Muskegon, Macatawa Area Express (MAX) Transportation Authority of Holland, Harbor Transit of Grand Haven, Hope Network of Grand Rapids, Disability Network/Lakeshore of Holland, and North Ottawa County Council on Aging of Grand Haven.
A $12,500 FTA New Freedom grant was awarded to Pioneer Resources to develop the website, and another $5,000 grant was awarded to the Macatawa Area Express Transportation Authority to produce and distribute a printed directory of transportation providers.
