Noise complaints by residents may push back completion of M-21 bridge project

Noise complaints by residents may push back completion of M-21 bridge project

ADA, Mich. (WZZM) - Halloween 2011. That was the schedule completion date of the M-21 bridge crossing the Grand River near the village of Ada, but that deadline is now in jeopardy.

Noise complaints from the 24-hour construction has forced MDOT to acquiese to the residents and make some changes in the construction schedule.

Pile driving, sheet driving and demolition no longer will be allowed between 10 p.m. and 6 a.m.

MDOT officials say they'd originally received variances from township noise ordinances, but given all the recent resident complaints, less work will now get done during the overnight hours.

MDOT communications specialist John Richard says if everything else stays on schedule, even given the overnight work reduction, there's still a chance that one lane of the bridge could be open by the fall.

Ada Bible Church looking to expand in Grand Rapids Township

Ada Bible Church looking to expand in Grand Rapids Township

ADA, Mich. (WZZM) - Ada Bible Church is looking to build a third facility in Grand Rapids Township. The Church already has a facility on Cascade Road that is home to more than 5,000 members, as well as an additional 1,200 member satellite Church in Kentwood.

Plans for a 750-seat sanctuary were recently formally presented to the township planning commission.

The nearly 19-acre parcel eyed for the project is located at the intersection of Knapp Avenue, McGuire Street, and Knapp Court.

Planners say one of the biggest issues with the area is the lack of sewer infrastructure. Developers say they will keep their options open, which may include working with some property owners located further north.

Officials from the Church are anxious for the process to proceed so they've asked the planning commission if they could be placed on April's agenda for the required public hearing.
