Daycare on East Beltline passes GR Township planning commission scrutiny

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WZZM) - The proposed Rainbow Child Development Center cleared one government hurdle Tuesday, March 22, when the Grand Rapids Charter Township Planning Commission voted unanimously to recommend both rezoning of the parcel and approval of the site plan to the township board.

Developers plan to construct the new facility at 2571 East Beltline Ave. Officials say the center will service approximately 100 local children from the age of six weeks to 12 years old.

If approved by the township board, the parcel will be rezoned from residential to high density residential, low density office planned unit development and construction on the project could begin immediately.

ADA TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WZZM) - The Ada Township Board has approved a plan from developers to move ahead with the second phase of The Villas of Ada condominium project.

Villas of Ada Phase II is an expansion of the existing 80-unit condominium project located between Ada Drive and Hall Street. The additional 48 units will be in 16 buildings and occupy 13 acres immediately west of the current development.

According to the development plan, two existing single-family homes will be replaced.

New homes will be accessed from current drives within the existing development, but the move will require joint easements between the township and the developers.

The develpoment plan also calls for an emergency access drive, which will also function as a pedestrian walkway when it's not being used for emergencies.
