Across the United States, communities pause in January to recognize the work of their Board of Education members and thank them for it. Here in Forest Hills, at the January Board of Education meeting held at Northern Trails 5/6 School, we acknowledged and thanked Board members for the extraordinary care and thoughtfulness evident in their leadership, and for their careful management of all district resources in every area of operations.

The concept behind boards of education is that these elected representatives provide local control of public schools. Decisions are made by representatives who understand their community's values, culture, and expectations.
