Many road projects planned for Ada this summer

Many road projects planned for Ada this summer

ADA, MI - The summer of 2012 will see a number of road repair and improvement projects in Ada Township, in addition to the ongoing work on the new M-21 bridge over the Grand River. Following is a list of planned projects and their targeted dates, as well as an update on M-21 bridge work:

• M-21 Bridge Replacement Update.  As those who use the bridge are aware, the Contractor resumed work in mid-March, and significant progress has been made since. Pouring of the concrete deck should be completed by early-June. Once the bridge deck is complete, concrete median barriers will be poured. When the median barrier and approach work is complete, the bridge will be opened to traffic – likely by the end of June.  At least one eastbound M-21 lane will probably remain closed after the bridge is open, to facilitate removal of the temporary bridge.

M-21 Bridge Project Update

M-21 Bridge Project Update

From: http://adatownshipmi.com/

Although it may look that way, the M-21 bridge contractor has not walked off the job!

Work on the bridge is at a point where continued progress requires warmer temperatures. According to MDOT officials, pouring of concrete decking and related concrete work requires consistent overnight temperatures above 50 degrees. As a result, the schedule for re-starting work in earnest is weather dependent.

According to MDOT, a "best-case" schedule that would be possible if unseasonably warm temperatures continue would have the new bridge deck open to at least one lane of traffic in each direction by Memorial Day weekend. A more realistic scenario, if weather returns to a more typical pattern, is for the new deck to be open by July 4 weekend.

MDOT will be keeping us informed as the construction schedule becomes more firm.

One Driver's take on saving Gas & Money

One Driver's take on saving Gas & Money

Today I received a call at work from Rick Hill who lives in Grand Rapids, MI. Rick told me about a way that he is now saving gas and money.

Rick drives a 2007 Chevy Equinox and puts on approximately 50,000 miles a year as a salesman. Like most people, he pushed the speed limit whenever he could but just recently decided he was going to bring his speed down to 65 when driving on the highways.  In doing this, Rick said the mileage on his vehicle has improved 7 miles per gallon, thus saving him money also.

Rick did not want to be interviewed but thought this information would be beneficial to other people who have a heavy foot when driving.
