Traffic lights out on Cascade Road during morning commute

CASCADE, MI -  Commuters were greeted by dark traffic lights on Cascade Road SE this morning.  Motorists first noticed the outage during yesterday's evening rush hour.  At 7:30am today, signal lights at Cascade Road SE and Spaulding Ave SE and a block away at the Hall St SE intersection were still out.  The power outages began yesterday when a storm system moved through West Michigan.

Messy commute on I96

Messy commute on I96

GRAND RAPIDS TOWNSHIP, MI - It was a messy commute on I-96 this morning.  Traffic came to a standstill on the Cascade Road ramp onto I-96 Wesbound shortly after 8:00 this morning.  I thought it might be an accident, but it looks like it was simply drivers being cautious as they merged onto the freeway.

Two to four inches of snow dropped across West Michigan.  How rare are these April snow showers?  It turns out, it's pretty rare.  In the past decade, we have received measurable snow after April 15 only once.  The latest measurable snow for Grand Rapids was May 18, 1915 when we recieved .2 inches, according to the National Weather Service.
